FINAL SUBMISSION

For this experiment we had to get inspired by our designer, my designer was Santiago Calatrava, we had to look into how the designer did his work what his hobbies are and any information that was needed to help us know our designer more.

We then were given a site 5 Wyargine Street, Mosman we had to look at all the council requirements for a DA substitution, we had to keep in mind (FSR) what is floor space ratio. After we knew all of this the was the design part of the experiment to design a home that will be suitable for our client and for a place where he would live.

In conclusion i was very happy with my overall result of my design and made me understand that is really important to design a home that will please the needs of your client and this was a great way to study this as i will be taking this into the real world.

below is my submission

ASSIGNMENT 2 (BRIEF)

Santiago Calatrava
Santiago Calatrava was born on the 28 of July 1951 in Spain, he is a Spanish architect. Santiago studied at the Polytechnic University of Valencia for his architectural degree with a post-graduate course in urbanism. Calatrava is a family man he has 3 sons who tow of them are engineers and the other one is doing law. Calatrava style is bridging the division between structural engineering and architecture his style is driving by studies of the human body and the natural world. Santiago is also a prolific sculptor and painter and this is shown in most of Calatrava work.

for this project i will aim to suit Calatrava work with big spans and styles that are driving by the human body and the natural world, i will have to focuss on the visual of the home as i will want it to be a sculptor. below are the spaces and design of the house.
  • building has to have a touch of Spain, in saying this i mean that have the vibe or the architecture of Spain
  • building needs to have 4 or more bedrooms one of them to be a master with ensuite

  • open kitchen plan
  • 3-4 bathrooms

Experiment 1 Submission

for my first experiment we had to create a building that we had to use 3 primitives and a list of rooms that we had include in our house. we had to also have no more then 250m2 in floor space and a maximum of 900m3 in volume. for my primitives i chose a pyramid, box and a cylinder this was a bit of a challenge as only one of these primitive are to be parallel to the floor. i wanted my building to be different and a stand out i wanted to keep it architectural.

once we had our final model and form of our building we then had do develop it and present a section, floor plans elevations etc and we had to show them on a presentation board i wanted to keep the presentation board as simple as i could so you can see the architecture in the building. below is my final submission for this experiment.

In saying all this i am very pleased in the final result of my building as this was quiet a challenge in having to stick to the requirements but it was also good as it helped me learn how it is in the industry and how it is very important to stink to guide lines. I would also like to say it helped me with my skills in using sketch-up and understand the program more.

below is the animation that i created in sketch-up

WEEK6

This week we had to create our own presentation board using images of our designer that we have chosen. I have chosen milwaukee art museum by Santiago Calatrava below is the board i have created

this is just a draft presentation board i will be going over this and making the image behind stand out more then the rest.

WEEK5

for this weeks task we had to find 3 examples of presentation boards to see the different styles, methods that it is trying to tell us. and what was the affect of the board on my personal view.

this first presentation board really shows the simplicity of a presentation and how it can be so effective with minimal photos and writing i really liked this as for the layout and how it has the small images and the whole over  view of the house gives us and shows us what they are tying to sell.

this second presentation i liked as for the style and color base they used its not over powerful and its a good understanding of what they are showing, its also very interesting how its set up in rows and how each row is showing different images to show the over view of the building.

this third one really caught my eye as for its only black and white and still very powerful to read and understand, i really like the 3D views of the building and and sections and how they are very powerful on the board and looking at this you can see what the building will look like once it is finished and that is what else i like about the image.

WEEK4

this week task was to gather martial of a building from our designer, the martial include elevations plans sections and anything else that we could find from the building. the building i have chosen is the milwaukee art museum santiago calatrava. below are the images i have found of the building.

WEEK3

This week we had to establish an overall scale of the building and to scale the various of spaces.

first i established each and every room in different boxers and i set them to a space where rooms that will be used more then others are set out in different colors.

blue:
Master bedroom + ensuite: 5x5 = 25 m2
bedroom 1: 4x4 = 16 m2
bedroom 2: 3x3 = 9 m2
bedroom 3: 3x3 = 9 m2
study/guest room: 3x3 = 9 m2
total = 68 m2

Yellow:
living: 5.5x6 = 33 m2
kitchen: 4x4 =  16 m2
dinning: 3x3 = 9 m2
total = 58 m2

Red:
double garage: 6x6 = 36 m2
kids bathroom: 3x3 = 9 m2
guest bathroom: 3x3 = 9 m2
laundry: 2x2 = 4 m2
total = 58 m2
once i have established my spaces i set them out and looked at them as a single space and how they will work once they are put together. below are the spaces as a single space

i then tried to put the spaces together as a whole but i left them in the same area below are the spaces moved around to work as one.

after i had the spaces in mind i started to use the primitives my first one was using a pyramid, box and cylinder.
below is the image.

My second primitive was using two different boxers and a cylinder
this wasn't as pleasing but was different.
below is the image

WEEK 2

Today tast was to fold paper into a model of out designer or artist I have chosen santiago calatrava below are the 3 models of each building with my architect. Our first two models we only had to use one paper to design our model this was very hard as we had to think of ways to make it. Then our third model we could use as many pieces of paper as we can to creat our model this was an easy way but the out come wasn't as good

    Model 1

    Model 2

WEEK 1

My designer that i have chosen is Santiago Calatrava i really liked his work and the buildings and ideas he comes up with are very different and eye catching. below are some photos of his work

Our first week for Arch 1390 was for us to develop 3D sketches with just minimal information about the building. Our tutor had giving each group different information about the building, one group had section and elevation drawings, one had photos and about 2 pages explaining the building and my groupe had the floor plans. this was a bit of a challenge as it mad me really read a floor plan and understand how it all comes together it also showed me that it is better to have a 3D visual image or sketch of a building as you will have a much better understanding of how it will look and built. Now i can understand that you need more then just floor plans to create a 3D sketch of a building as some information was not shown on our floor plan. below is the 3D sketch of the building
